Journey to the heart of Savoy
In season, discover another slide: Ski Joering.
The origins of ski joëring go back to 2500 years before Christ, when we find the first traces in Scandinavia of Shörekjöring, ancestor of skijoering, which at the time was only a means of locomotion. At the start, this activity was practiced by peasants who combined a need for work, travel or leisure with the horse or the dog and skiing.
Initially a means of transport, ski joëring will evolve towards pleasure and competition. The Swiss have, among other things, developed this discipline at the beginning of the 20th century for tourism and competition purposes, the most famous of which are the St. Moritz races.
At the end of the 19th century, forgotten winter equestrian disciplines reappeared locally. In France, the winter use of the horse disappeared completely after the Second World War and reappeared in the late 1990s.
Some centers offer this activity, notably the Mont-Blanc Equestrian Center in Les Houches.
