The Strand
Opened in 1901 by the Sarkies brothers, who were also responsible for Raffles Hotel in Singapore, the Strand Hotel is one of the great colonial hotels of South East Asia. The 31-suite Strand is a five star boutique hotel in the heart of Yangon and remains a focal point of the city.
From the beginning, it was regarded as “the finest hostelry east of Suez” and “patronised by royalty, nobility, and distinguished personages”. The Strand, a three-storey, Victorian-style hotel, located in the heart of the city was reopened in November 1993 after extensive refurbishing and restored to its former glory.
